The Janitor Fixed My Impossible Engine, but His True Identity Ruined Everything
Previously: When a desperate executive offered her hand in marriage to anyone who could fix a multi-million dollar engine, a quiet janitor stepped up—and changed her life forever.
A Ghost from the Past
The laboratory erupted into stunned silence, followed by frantic whispers. The digital diagnostic screens flashed a vibrant, triumphant green. The impossible engine was running flawlessly. Grace stared at the quiet janitor, her heart racing. He wiped his greasy hands on a rag, looking at her with an intense, knowing gaze. "A promise is a promise, Grace," Matthew said softly.
Before Grace could process the sudden shock, the heavy glass doors of the lab hissed open. Richard, her ex-fiancé, stepped inside, flanked by three armed security guards and his legal team. He looked at the humming engine, his face twisting into a mask of pure rage. "Stop right there!" Richard barked, pointing at Matthew.

Grace stepped forward defensively. "It's over, Richard. The engine is running. My father's company is safe. Get out."
Richard let out a cold, mocking laugh. "Safe? You think this trash collector just saved you, Grace? Look at him. That is no janitor." He slammed a thick, official-looking file onto the table, right next to the humming prototype.
Richard glared at the quiet man. "His real name is Matthew Sterling. He was the chief scientist of Vanguard Tech, who supposedly died in a massive laboratory fire five years ago—the same fire where he was accused of stealing military secrets and murdering his own partner. He’s a fugitive."
Grace felt the ground slip from beneath her feet. She looked at Matthew, waiting for him to deny it, to laugh at the absurd accusation. But Matthew stood perfectly still, his eyes filled with a deep, agonizing sorrow. "Grace, let me explain," Matthew pleaded quietly. "I was set up. By him." He pointed directly at Richard, whose guards were already pulling out handcuffs to arrest him.
