The Secret Graduation Gift That Exposed My Stepmother's Dark Thirty-Year Past
Previously: When Chloe received an unexpected gift at her graduation, she thought her life was perfect. But a sudden confrontation revealed a shocking secret about her stepmother.
The Shadow of the Past
The sudden crash of the doors caused the entire room to fall silent. A man in a sharp, dark designer suit strode into the elegant hall, his expression cold and arrogant. It was Marcus, Chloe’s estranged uncle, a man who had not been seen since her father’s funeral fifteen years ago. Behind him walked a stern-faced lawyer clutching a leather briefcase. The celebratory mood instantly evaporated, replaced by a suffocating tension that hung heavily over the white tablecloths.
"Do not touch those keys, Chloe!" Marcus shouted, his voice echoing off the teal walls. He marched directly toward the head table, pointing an accusing finger at Helen, whose face had gone completely pale.

"What is the meaning of this, Marcus?" Helen demanded, her voice trembling slightly as she stood protectively in front of Chloe. "This is a private family celebration."
"It’s a crime scene," Marcus sneered, gesturing to his lawyer to open the briefcase. "Your loving stepmother is a fraud, Chloe. She didn’t buy that cottage for you. She stole your mother's entire estate twenty years ago. She forged your late father's signature on his will to keep control of your trust fund and live off your inheritance!"
Chloe’s heart pounded against her ribs. She looked at the legal documents the lawyer pushed toward her. The words forgery and fraud stood out in bold black ink. She turned to Helen, begging for a denial, but Helen only stared at the floor, her hands shaking violently. Marcus laughed coldly, claiming the deed was worthless and the property was in foreclosure. But just as Marcus reached to seize the keys, Helen took a deep breath, her eyes suddenly turning ice-cold. She reached into her blazer pocket and pulled out a small digital voice recorder.
"You always did underestimate me, Marcus," Helen said quietly, pressing play.
