Previously: When Edith fell from the snowy balcony of her family's estate, she thought her husband Lewis had taken everything. But she survived, and the truth was far worse than betrayal.

A Cold Survival

The thick, unplowed snowdrift at the base of the balcony saved Edith’s life, absorbing the deadly force of the fall. She lay gasping for breath, her body wracked with agonizing pain. Julian was by her side in seconds, his face pale with shock. He wrapped his heavy charcoal coat around her shivering frame and whispered urgent words of comfort. Knowing that Lewis controlled the local police, Julian didn't call for help; instead, he secretly carried Edith to his car and drove her to a private clinic.

Over the next two days, while Edith recovered under an assumed name, Julian gathered evidence. He returned to the manor under the guise of collecting Edith's personal effects and managed to plant a recording device in Lewis's study. What they discovered on that tape shattered the last remnants of Edith’s heart.

“Is she really gone?” Stella’s voice murmured on the recording, cold and devoid of remorse. “We need to transfer the trust funds before anyone suspects anything.”
“She’s gone, Stella,” Lewis replied, his voice dripping with sinister satisfaction. “The money is ours. We just need Julian to sign off on the estate transfer.”

They were lovers, and they had planned Edith's demise together to seize her family's vast inheritance. But they had made one fatal mistake: they didn't know Edith had survived. Together, Edith and Julian devised a daring trap. Julian contacted Lewis, claiming he had covered up Edith's "accidental" death to protect the family name, but demanded a massive cut of the inheritance. Greed blinded Lewis, who immediately agreed to meet Julian at the manor to finalize the paperwork. They had no idea that the stage was set for a confrontation they would never forget.
