They Framed Me and Demanded My White Sneakers—But the Truth Was Stitched Inside
Previously: When the terrifying prison bully demands Megan's white sneakers, she must risk everything to protect them—because inside the soles lies the only proof of her innocence.
The Midnight Ambush
Megan spent the rest of the afternoon locked in her cell, her heart racing as she tried to process what had happened. It was no coincidence that Brenda had targeted her shoes. Her ex-husband, Sean, must have realized that her defense attorney had successfully smuggled the crucial evidence into the facility. From his hiding place abroad, Sean had undoubtedly used his remaining stolen wealth to buy influence inside the prison, hiring Brenda to eliminate the threat.
As darkness fell over the cell block, the usual chaotic noise of the prison subsided into an uneasy, echoing silence. Megan lay awake on her thin mattress, clutching the white sneakers tightly to her chest. She had carefully inspected them earlier, finding the tiny seam where the microchip was nested. It was her only hope, but tonight, it felt like a target on her back.

Just past midnight, a soft, mechanical click echoed through the darkness. Megan’s eyes snapped open. Her cell door was slowly sliding open—an impossibility without a guard's key or a deliberate override from the control booth.
Three shadows stepped into the dim light of her cell. At the front was Brenda, her heavy footsteps silent but purposeful. In her right hand, the pale moonlight glinted off the sharp edge of a makeshift shiv.
"I told you, princess," Brenda whispered, her voice dripping with malice. "Now, give me the shoes, or I'll take them off your cold, dead feet."
Megan backed into the corner of her bunk, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She was completely cornered, with no guards in sight and no way to call for help. Brenda lunged forward, raising the weapon, while her two accomplices blocked the doorway. Megan kicked out desperately, using her sneakers to shield herself as Brenda closed in for the final blow.
