Previously: When Jessica was unfairly dismissed from the force, she lost everything. But a surprise challenge at a dusty shooting range gave her one shot at ultimate redemption.

A True Marksman's Justice

With only three seconds left on the clock, Jessica didn't panic. Instead of aiming for the rigged target, she shifted her focus to the thin, metallic cable holding the offset plate. It was a nearly impossible shot—a wire thinner than a pencil, swaying in the hot desert wind. Caleb leaned closer, whispering,

"Give up, Jessica. You're finished."

Jessica blocked out his voice. She exhaled, letting her heartbeat slow, and squeezed the trigger. *Bang!* The bullet severed the tension cable instantly. With a loud metallic snap, the sabotaged hostage plate dropped away, fully exposing the target behind it. Before anyone could comprehend what had happened, Jessica cycled the final bolt and fired her last shot. The bullet struck the hostage-taker target directly between the eyes.

A stunned silence fell over the range. Ryan rushed over to the control panel, examining the telemetry. He looked up, his eyes wide with realization.

"The mechanism was rigged,"
Ryan announced, glaring directly at Caleb.
"The hostage plate was offset. The only way to hit the target was to shoot the wire first. That wasn't just a perfect shot—it was a miracle."

Caleb stammered, his face turning a deep, embarrassed red as the other recruiters began to whisper and point. Ryan stepped forward, ignoring Caleb entirely, and extended his hand to Jessica.

"We don't just want to hire you, Jessica. We want you to run our entire training division. And as for Caleb, his consulting contract is officially terminated."

Jessica took a deep breath, feeling the heavy burden of the last two years finally lift from her shoulders. She looked at Caleb, who was being escorted off the range in disgrace, and knew she had finally won her life back. True talent and integrity can never be permanently buried by lies; when given a second chance, excellence always finds its mark.
