Previously: When three arrogant young men tried to force a quiet elderly fisherman off a misty lake dock, they had no idea who he really was—or the lesson they were about to learn.

The Power Shifts

Thomas slowly stood up, letting his towering six-foot-two frame unfold. Though his joints ached, decades of hard labor in the timber mills had left him with broad shoulders and an imposing presence that immediately made the three young men take a step back. The smirk on Jason’s face faltered for a fraction of a second before he recovered his arrogant posture.

"You're trespassing on private property, old man," Jason sneered, crossing his arms. "This entire lakefront and the surrounding forest belong to the Blackwood Development Group. Our families own the company. We can have you arrested in ten minutes."

Thomas looked down at the splintered fragment of the bamboo rod still lying on the wet wood. His voice, when he finally spoke, was quiet, but it carried the weight of a rolling thunderclap.

"That rod belonged to my late wife," Thomas said softly. "It is irreplaceable."

Derek laughed, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Who cares about a cheap piece of wood? Get your trash and get lost before we throw you in after it." The third boy pulled out his phone, snickering as he recorded the confrontation, waiting for the old man to break.

Thomas reached slowly into his work jacket. He didn't pull out a phone or a weapon. Instead, he withdrew a thick, leather-bound document and a brass key card bearing an official county seal. He held the document open, letting the camera capture the bold, black letters at the top of the deed.

Jason leaned in to squint at the paper. As his eyes scanned the text, the color drained from his face. His cocky posture dissolved, and his jaw went slack. The name printed in bold letters was Thomas Vance—the sole proprietor of the entire Blackwood Estate, the very land their fathers had spent five desperate years trying to acquire for a multi-million dollar resort project.
