The Escalation in the Yard

The humiliation of losing control in front of the entire guard line pushed Officer William over the edge. His face turned a deep, furious crimson as he reached for his taser. Beside him, Lieutenant Lewis drew his service pistol, his hand shaking slightly but his eyes filled with malice. The atmosphere in the wet compound turned deadly quiet, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife.

"Get back in your cell, Amanda, or we will terminate these beasts right now!"
Lewis threatened, pointing the barrel of his gun directly at Shadow. The loyal German Shepherd didn't back down, letting out a low, vibrating growl that echoed off the concrete walls.

Amanda felt a surge of panic, but she kept her voice perfectly calm. She knew any sign of fear would trigger the dogs to attack, giving the guards the perfect excuse to open fire on all of them.

"You don't want to do this, Lewis,"
Amanda warned, her voice steady and resolute.
"There are eyes on you that you don't even know about."

William laughed bitterly.

"Nobody cares about what happens to a convicted felon, Amanda. You're going down, and your precious dogs are going with you."

But before William could step forward, the heavy steel gates at the far end of the compound creaked open. The sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the yard. It wasn't the backup guards they expected. Instead, the Warden walked out, flanked by Audrey Miller, a senior investigator from the Internal Affairs Division, and several state troopers.

It turned out that Amanda's closest ally on the outside had finally managed to bypass the corrupt local precinct, delivering an encrypted flash drive containing undeniable proof of William and Lewis's extensive smuggling operation directly to the state capitol.
