Previously: Underestimated by a rugged instructor, a disgraced former officer must pass a brutal shooting test to reclaim her life—unaware that her corrupt ex-husband is watching.

A Shadow from the Past

The silence that settled over the shooting range was absolute. The spectators who had been snickering moments ago now stared at Megan in stunned silence. Steve slowly shook his head, a look of profound respect washing over his weathered face. He realized he wasn't looking at an amateur; he was looking at one of the finest marksmen he had ever encountered. But before he could speak, the roar of an approaching engine shattered the quiet. A black SUV tore up the gravel driveway, stopping abruptly in a cloud of choking dust.

Megan's heart sank into her chest as the driver's side door swung open. Out stepped Tyler, wearing his detective's badge prominently on his belt, flanked by two of his loyal deputies. A cruel, triumphant smirk plastered his face as he walked toward the canopy. He had been tracking Megan, determined to ensure she never rebuilt her life.

"Well, well. Look at the disgraced officer trying to play soldier," Tyler sneered, his eyes scanning the range before locking onto Megan. "I told you to stay out of this county, Megan. You don't belong here."

Steve stepped forward, his posture hardening. "This is a private training facility, Detective. You have no jurisdiction here."

Tyler ignored Steve, stepping directly into Megan's space, trying to intimidate her. "I'm here to deliver a final warning," he whispered, his voice dripping with malice. "I heard you were trying to get a job with Steve's outfit. If you don't pack your bags and leave the state by tonight, I'll make sure you never see Lily again. I'll make sure you end up in a cell where you belong."

Megan clenched her fists, her knuckles turning white. "She is my daughter, Tyler. You framed me, you took her, and I won't let you run my life anymore."

Tyler laughed, reaching out to mockingly tap the barrel of her rifle. "Who is going to believe you? You're nothing." But before his hand could touch the weapon, Steve stepped between them, his eyes burning with fury. He reached into his tactical vest, pulling out a gold shield that made Tyler's smirk instantly vanish. "She belongs on my firing line, Tyler. And you are officially interfering with a federal investigation."
