Previously: When three arrogant young men decided to bully a quiet old fisherman on a foggy dock, they had no idea who he really was—or how quickly their lives would change.

A Sudden Shift in Power

Thomas stood up slowly, his tall frame casting a long shadow over the three boys. Despite his age, there was an unmistakable strength in his posture that made Derek take a half-step back. The smug laughter died down slightly, replaced by an uneasy tension. Thomas reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, worn leather wallet. He slid a crisp, gold-embossed business card out and handed it to Derek.

"You might want to read this before you make your next move,"
Thomas said, his voice calm and steady.

Derek snatched the card, ready to mock it, but as his eyes scanned the name printed on the card, his face drained of all color. The name was Thomas Vance, the sole owner of Vance Enterprises, the company that owned the entire valley, the lake, and the very mill where Derek's father worked.

"You... you're Mr. Vance?"
Derek whispered, his hands beginning to shake. Jason frowned, grabbing the card from his friend.
"So what? He's just an old man, Derek. He can't do anything to us."

But Jason was wrong. At that moment, a heavy set of footsteps sprinted down the dock. It was Mark, Derek's father and the foreman of Thomas's logging mill. He had seen the confrontation from the shoreline. Mark’s face was pale with absolute terror. He grabbed his son by the shoulder and shoved him back.

"Are you completely insane?"
Mark yelled, his voice cracking with emotion. He turned to Thomas, trembling.
"Mr. Vance, please forgive them. They didn't know who you were. Please, don't take away our lease. I've worked for you for fifteen years."
The three boys stood frozen, realizing that their foolish arrogance had just put their families' entire livelihoods on the line.
