The Restroom Trap

The air in the Oakridge High girls' restroom was thick with the scent of cheap perfume and damp concrete. Under the flickering hum of the fluorescent lights, the white tiles looked cold and clinical. It was the perfect place for an ambush, which was exactly what Emily had planned. With her vibrant red hair framing a face twisted in malicious glee, Emily cornered Jessica against the sinks. Two of Emily’s loyal followers grabbed Jessica’s arms, pinning her against the cold porcelain.

Jessica, a quiet brunette wearing her pleated school uniform, didn't scream. She simply stared, her dark eyes reflecting a strange, calm intensity. Emily uncapped a tube of deep red lipstick, holding it like a weapon. Slowly, deliberately, she pressed the wax tip against Jessica's forehead, dragging it across her skin to leave a vivid red mark. Emily leaned in close, her breath warm against Jessica's ear, and whispered,

"Now everyone will know what you are."

But Emily had severely underestimated her target. For months, Jessica had endured the whispers, the shoved shoulders in the hallway, and the stolen homework. Today was different. Jessica closed her eyes for a single second, taking a deep, centering breath. Then, with an explosive burst of energy, she executed a rapid, blinding spin. The sudden momentum tore her arms from the grip of the two bullies.

Before they could react, Jessica swept her leg, sending the first girl crashing to the floor. In a fluid, continuous motion, her elbow connected with the second girl's shoulder, sending her reeling back into a stall. Emily gasped, stepping back, but Jessica was already there. With a swift block of Emily's wild swing, Jessica swept her legs out from under her. Within seconds, all three bullies lay dazed on the tiled floor.

Jessica stood defiantly over them, her breathing steady. She knelt beside Emily, who was trembling, her previous bravado completely gone. Jessica snatched the red lipstick from the floor. With a steady hand, she drew a bold cross directly onto Emily's forehead. Looking down at her with icy resolve, Jessica spoke.

"You wrote the wrong name,"
she said coldly.
