The plush, gilded hallway of the Grand Plaza Hotel felt suffocatingly quiet, save for the sound of Maya’s choked sobs. Clutching her heavily pregnant belly, her light blue linen dress pooled around her on the cold marble floor. She looked up, her eyes wide with terror, staring at the woman who had cornered her. Jessica, dressed in a sleek, venomous black dress, sneered down at her, her voice a sharp whisper of cruel threats and demands. Maya felt utterly helpless, trapped in a nightmare she couldn't escape.

Just as Maya felt her strength giving out and the panic taking over, heavy, rapid footsteps echoed down the long corridor. Richard, his salt-and-pepper hair catching the hotel's warm chandelier light, rushed into view. His navy blue blazer was unbuttoned, his face flushed with pure, protective fury as he realized what was happening.

"Stay away from her!"

He roared the words, his deep voice bouncing off the high ceilings and shattering the tense silence. Jessica gasped, taking a sharp step back and raising her manicured hands defensively in front of her chest.

"There's a misunderstanding!"

She stammered, her cold composure instantly vaporizing. Maya looked up through a heavy veil of tears, her voice trembling with a mixture of relief and exhaustion.

"Uncle Richard..."

She pleaded, reaching out a trembling hand toward him. Richard didn't look down at Maya just yet; his eyes were locked onto Jessica like a predator marking its prey. He stepped between them, his towering frame completely shielding the vulnerable pregnant woman. He pointed a menacing finger directly at Jessica's face, his voice dropping to a deadly, quiet hiss that sent shivers down her spine.

"Touch my granddaughter again, and you're finished."

A single tear of sheer terror slipped down Jessica's pale cheek as her face warped into a mask of panic. She knew Richard was not a man of empty promises, and her wicked game was falling apart.
