The sun beat down on the manicured lawns of the Sterling estate, casting long shadows across the grand French provincial stone patio. For months, Sergeant Montgomery Sterling had been dreaming of this place while deployed overseas in the desert. He dreamed of the quiet afternoons, the smell of blooming jasmine, and most of all, his beloved grandmother, Elspeth. Since his parents had passed, Elspeth was his entire world. Because her health had declined, Montgomery had hired Carmen, a highly recommended private nurse, to care for her in his absence.

Carmen, dressed in a sleek black wrap dress, was towering over Elspeth. There was no gentleness in her posture, only raw, bubbling venom. With a violent jerk, Carmen grabbed the frail elderly woman, who was dressed in her favorite white embroidered dress, and aggressively pulled her backward out of her wheelchair. Elspeth crashed heavily onto the hard stone patio, her fragile body absorbing the brutal impact.

"Ah! Stop, please!" Elspeth cried out, her voice cracking with sheer agony.

Adrenaline surged through Montgomery’s veins. The desert digital military camouflage uniform he wore felt heavy, but his movements were lightning-fast. Seeing his grandmother helpless on the ground ignited a primal fury within him.

"You monster!" Montgomery roared, charging across the lawn.

He slammed into Carmen, shoving her violently away from the wheelchair. She hit the ground hard, her polished facade completely crumbling as she looked up into the eyes of a furious soldier.
