The afternoon sun filtered warmly through the oak cabinets of Clara’s cozy kitchen, casting a deceptive glow over a scene of pure horror. Clara, a frail seventy-two-year-old woman wearing reading glasses and a faded blue patterned housecoat, sat trembling at the wooden dining table. Tears streamed down her wrinkled cheeks as her daughter-in-law, Megan, stood over her like a warden. Megan, dressed in a bright yellow sundress that contrasted sharply with her dark malice, aggressively shoved a spoon full of hot food into Clara's mouth.

"You old hag, eat this!" Megan sneered, her voice dripping with venom.

Clara whimpered, choking on the food as she tried to pull away. "Stop, please, stop!" she begged, her voice barely a whisper. But Megan only gripped her shoulder tighter, forcing another spoonful. She had spent months isolating Clara, convincing Michael that his mother was slipping into dementia and needed constant, aggressive supervision.

At that exact moment, the front door clicked open. Michael, Clara's devoted son, walked in carrying heavy brown paper grocery bags. He had decided to surprise them with ingredients for his mother’s favorite dinner. But as he stepped into the kitchen, the bags slipped from his hands, spilling oranges and cans across the hardwood floor. He froze, his brain struggling to process the monstrous sight before him.
