The Hallway Nightmare

It was supposed to be a quiet Thursday afternoon when Megan returned home early from her shift. The sun filtered softly through the windows of their bright, suburban home, reflecting off the polished wooden floors. But the serene silence of the house was suddenly shattered by a bloodcurdling shriek from the upstairs hallway. It was a voice Megan knew all too well—her grandmother, Hazel.

Heart pounding, Megan dropped her keys and raced toward the stairs. As she rounded the corner, her breath caught in her throat. There, in the middle of the bright hallway, was her stepfather, George. Wearing a dark green shirt, his face was twisted in a mask of pure rage. He had eighty-year-old Hazel pinned to the floor. Hazel, dressed in her favorite lavender sweater, was trembling, screaming in agonizing pain.

"Ah! Please, George, stop!" Hazel sobbed, her frail body shaking against the hard wood.

Instead of backing off, George raised a clenched fist, his eyes wild with malice. He yelled angrily at the terrified elderly woman.

"Take that, you old hag!" George roared, grabbing a fistful of her silver hair and pulling her head back brutally.

Megan didn't think twice. Adrenaline surged through her veins, erasing any trace of fear. Charging forward from the background of the hallway, she launched herself into the air. With a desperate, powerful flying kick, she screamed at the top of her lungs.

"Get off!" Megan shrieked, her foot connecting squarely with George’s chest.

The force of the impact knocked George clean off Hazel, sending him crashing into the drywall. Megan immediately scrambled to shield her grandmother, her heart hammering against her ribs as she prepared for the next blow.
