A Nightmare in the Courtyard

The afternoon sun beat down on the historic stone courtyard of the Vance estate, casting long, mocking shadows across the manicured gardens. Claire clung to her pregnant belly, her breath coming in ragged, terrified gasps. She wore a beautiful burgundy dress, a stark contrast to the cold, grey stone beneath her. Her husband, Matthew, stood over her, his face contorted in an ugly mask of rage that she had come to dread over the last few months. His charcoal suit was immaculate, but his actions were monstrous.

"You think you can just walk away from me, Claire? You think you can take my child?" Matthew sneered, his voice a low, threatening hiss.

With a sudden, violent movement, Matthew grabbed Claire by her auburn hair, pulling her head back. She let out a sharp cry of pain, tears instantly welling in her eyes. Selena, Claire’s sister-in-law, rushed forward in her shimmering yellow-gold dress, her hands outstretched in a desperate bid to intervene.

"Matthew, stop! She is pregnant! Have you lost your mind?" Selena screamed, trying to pry his fingers away.

But Matthew shoved Selena aside, his grip on Claire tightening. Claire closed her eyes, bracing for the worst, praying for a miracle to protect her unborn baby. That was when the heavy oak gates of the courtyard burst open. A figure charged through the dust—Andrew, an older man with a thick mane of white hair and a matching beard, wearing a dark grey overcoat. He didn't hesitate. With a roar of protective fury, Andrew launched himself at Matthew, delivering a powerful punch that sent the younger man crashing to the hard stone floor. Matthew groaned, clutching his jaw, completely incapacitated. Andrew immediately dropped to his knees, pulling a weeping Claire into a warm, protective embrace, whispering that she was finally safe.
