The morning sun filtered through the tall windows of Oak Creek Elementary, casting a warm glow that did nothing to ease the heavy sorrow in eleven-year-old Zoe’s heart. While her classmates whispered and worked on their assignments, Zoe sat silently at her desk, her small hands trembling as she clutched a silver-framed photograph. The man in the picture was her father, Captain Marcus Miller, a brave soldier who had recently been declared missing in action. Tears slipped down Zoe's cheeks, splashing onto the glass of the frame. She felt entirely alone in the world.

A Sudden Outburst of Rage

At the front of the classroom stood Mrs. Davis, wearing her usual tan sweater and a cold, severe expression. She had been watching Zoe with growing irritation. To Mrs. Davis, Zoe’s grief was an annoying distraction, a disruption to her strict classroom order. Suddenly, the teacher marched over to Zoe's desk. Without warning, Mrs. Davis slammed her fist onto the wooden desk with such unnatural, terrifying force that the wood literally splintered and cracked in half, sending Zoe's precious photo flying to the floor.

"That is enough of your crying, Zoe! He is gone, and no amount of tears will bring him back!" Mrs. Davis hissed.

Zoe let out a terrified sob, shrinking back into her seat. But before Mrs. Davis could utter another cruel word, the heavy wooden classroom door was kicked open. Standing in the doorway was General Thomas Miller, a highly decorated military officer in his immaculate blue dress uniform. His face was a mask of pure, protective fury. Seeing his granddaughter cowering and the broken frame on the floor, the General didn't hesitate. He rushed forward and struck Mrs. Davis, sending the abusive teacher crashing to the linoleum floor. In an instant, the high-stakes tension in the room reached a boiling point as the General knelt down, pulling a sobbing Zoe into his arms.
