A Nightmare in the Nursery

The soft, pastel pink walls of the nursery were supposed to be a sanctuary of peace for baby Lily. Instead, they became the backdrop of a horrific betrayal. Thirty-four-year-old Sarah stood near the wooden crib, adjusting her yellow t-shirt, watching her precious newborn sleep. The gentle afternoon light filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. But the tranquility was shattered when the door flew open, and Martha, Sarah's seventy-four-year-old mother-in-law, marched in with a look of pure malice in her eyes.

Without a word, the silver-haired matriarch lunged forward. Before Sarah could react, Martha’s frail-looking but surprisingly strong fingers clawed into Sarah's brown hair, pulling her backward with violent force. Sarah gasped, a sharp pain radiating through her scalp as she tried to break free.

"Get out of my house! You will not take my child!"
Sarah screamed, her voice cracking as she desperately tried to protect the sleeping baby in the crib.

That was when Sarah saw her husband, thirty-six-year-old Jack, standing in the doorway. Wearing his favorite grey hoodie, Jack stared in horror at the chaos unfolding in the nursery. For a brief second, Sarah felt a surge of hope, believing her husband would step in to save her from his mother's wrath. Instead, a cold, empty expression washed over Jack’s face. He lunged forward, raising his heavy boot, and violently kicked Sarah in the ribs.

The impact was devastating. The force of the kick sent Sarah flying backward. She crashed directly into the thin plasterboard wall of the hallway. The drywall shattered instantly under her weight, collapsing inward in a shower of white debris and plaster dust. Sarah hit the hardwood floor, gasping for air, her vision blurring as Martha and Jack stood over her, completely indifferent to her pain.
