Sergeant James stepped through the front door of his childhood home, his heart pounding with anticipation. After a grueling fourteen-month deployment overseas, all he wanted was to hug his beloved grandmother, Alice, and thank his wife, Rachel, for taking care of her. The house was eerie and quiet, save for a muffled, distressing sound coming from the makeshift clinical room down the hall. James frowned, dropping his duffel bag onto the hardwood floor. He crept toward the room, his military instincts instantly putting him on high alert.

As he reached the doorway, the scene before him shattered his world. The room was brightly lit, dominated by the rhythmic, clinical hum of a vitals monitor and a tall IV stand. In the bed lay Alice, her thin white hair disheveled, her frail body trembling. Rachel, dressed in a cozy maroon sweater, was hovering over the elderly woman. But she wasn't comforting her. Rachel was fake-crying, letting out theatrical sobs while violently hitting Alice with a heavy pillow and pulling her hair. Alice was grimacing in pure agony, unable to defend herself against the woman she trusted.

Rage, hot and uncontrollable, surged through James's veins. He didn't see his wife; he saw a monster preying on the helpless.

James roared, his voice echoing off the walls. He rushed into the room like a hurricane, grabbing Rachel by her blonde hair to pull her away. Before she could even comprehend what was happening, James unleashed a dramatic, flying kick. The impact sent Rachel flying backward, crashing face-down onto the hard clinical floor with a heavy thud. The room fell into a chaotic silence, broken only by Alice's soft, terrified whimpering and the steady beep of the vitals monitor.
