The heavy, overcast sky hung low over Oakridge High, casting a gloomy gray pall over the damp asphalt of the school parking lot. Chloe’s hands trembled as she knelt on the cold ground, desperately trying to gather her scattered notebooks. A sudden, vicious shove from Brody had sent her sprawling, her papers fluttering into the dirty puddles. Brody, wearing his pristine green letterman jacket, stood over her with a cruel, mocking smirk, flanked by a few onlookers who did nothing but whisper and watch.

"Watch where you're going, loser," Brody sneered, his voice dripping with arrogance. Chloe blinked back tears of humiliation, refusing to let him see her cry, though her chest tightened with familiar panic.

A Sudden Protector

Before Brody could kick another one of her books away, a shadow fell over the scene. Caleb, a quiet man with a stubble-bearded face, a black beanie, and a dark windbreaker, stepped forward. He had been passing by the school gates, but the sight of the bully’s cruelty had struck a deep chord within him. He couldn't just walk away.

With slow, deliberate steps, Caleb intervened, placing himself directly between the trembling girl and the towering bully. The atmosphere grew instantly heavy, the cool-toned afternoon air thick with unspoken tension.

Brody puffed out his chest, glaring at the older man. "Who the hell are you? Get lost, old man."

Caleb didn't flinch. He leaned in, his dark eyes locked onto Brody’s in a tense, face-to-face confrontation.

"You think you're tough, huh? Pick on someone who can stand up to you,"

Caleb said firmly, his voice low but carrying a chilling authority that made Brody’s smirk falter. Brody glared back angrily, his fists clenching, but the sudden shift in power was undeniable.
