The autumn rain had left the concrete sidewalks of the city slick and treacherous. Sarah, dressed in her favorite red rain jacket, was hurrying to an important meeting. She was already anxious, her mind racing with a million thoughts about her career, when her foot suddenly lost traction on the wet pavement. In a split second, she slipped, crashing hard onto the cold, unforgiving ground. Instead of offering a helping hand, a group of young men standing nearby erupted into cruel laughter. Dylan, wearing a grey varsity jacket, pointed at her and chuckled. One of his friends shouted,

while another added mockingly,

he asked gently, helping her gather her scattered belongings from the wet ground.
