A Nightmare in the Hospital Corridor

The sterile, white-tiled hallway of St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital was usually a place of quiet anticipation and healing. But on a Tuesday afternoon, it transformed into a scene of absolute terror. Clara, thirty-two weeks pregnant and wearing a bright yellow floral dress, sat huddled on the cold linoleum floor, her hands desperately shielding her swollen belly. Tears streamed down her face as she looked up at her attacker with pure dread.

Standing over her was Brenda, her sister-in-law, clad in a sharp black dress that matched the dark fury in her eyes. Without warning, Brenda lunged forward, kicking violently toward Clara.

"You deserve this!" Brenda screamed, her voice echoing off the clinical walls.
"No, please!" Clara sobbed, pulling her knees closer to her chest to protect her unborn child.

Just yards away, Clara's husband, Mark, was returning from the reception desk with a bottle of water. Seeing the assault, his blood ran cold. Beside him, Nurse Sarah gasped in horror. Mark dropped the bottle, sprinting down the hallway with a ferocious urgency.

"Stop, what are you doing? Get back!" Mark roared, his voice cracking with panic and rage.

He threw his body between them, forcefully shoving Brenda back. Brenda stumbled against the wall, her auburn hair disheveled, her eyes wild with unhinged malice. Mark didn't waste another second confronting her; he immediately dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around his trembling, sobbing wife. As Nurse Sarah rushed to call security, Mark held Clara tight, whispering frantic promises of safety into her hair, completely unaware of the dark family secrets that were about to spill out onto the hospital floor.
