The Mark of the Skull

The heavy glass door of the Highway 99 Diner rattled loudly as Grace stepped inside. The air inside was thick with the scent of burnt coffee, grease, and cheap tobacco. Grace, just nineteen years old, kept her head down, her dark brown hair pulled back into a tight, neat bun to avoid drawing unnecessary attention. She walked slowly down the narrow aisle between the red leather booths, her boots squeaking softly against the worn linoleum floor. Her heart hammered wildly against her ribs, but she forced her young face to remain completely expressionless and calm.

She stopped near the middle of the diner, right where the overhead light buzzed. With a slow, deliberate motion, she pulled up the sleeve of her white shirt. There, etched in dark, fading ink on her forearm, was a winged skull—the unmistakable emblem of the legendary Iron Cobras motorcycle club. It was a mark of loyalty, a mark of blood, and a mark that absolutely did not belong on a teenage girl in this part of town.

Across the room, Wyatt, a rugged biker with a long graying ponytail and a thick beard, froze mid-sip. His eyes locked onto her arm, his expression shifting from mild amusement to absolute shock. He gripped the edge of the wooden table, his knuckles turning white as he began to rise. But before Wyatt could make a single move, another massive figure stood up from the shadows of a corner booth.

"Nobody moves. She's with me," Dane barked to the room.

Dane, a muscular, bald biker in a worn leather vest, stepped into the aisle. He moved with a terrifying authority that instantly quieted the whispers in the diner. He stepped between Grace and Wyatt, his massive frame completely shielding her from view. He placed a heavy, protective hand on her shoulder, bending down to whisper urgently into her ear.

"Door, now," Dane muttered, his voice trembling with a rare, hidden panic. "Don't look back."
