A Tense Stand-off in Burgundy Booths

The neon sign of the Highway 9 Diner buzzed with a low, irritating hum that grated on Zoe’s raw nerves. Clutching her damp jacket, she walked down the narrow aisle, her boots squeaking against the linoleum. The heavy scent of stale coffee and fried grease hung in the air, but the real suffocation came from the eyes watching her. At the back booth sat the Iron Skulls, a notorious local motorcycle club. Zoe’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird.

She stopped just a few feet from their table. Her face was grim, pale, and mapped with exhaustion. Without saying a word, she slowly pulled up her left green sleeve. There, etched into her pale skin, was a faded but intricate tattoo of a winged skull clutching a silver dagger. It was a mark she had hidden for years, a curse she had inherited from a father she barely remembered.

The reaction was instantaneous. Clint, a bearded biker wearing a dusty gray bandana, choked on his coffee, his eyes widening in pure shock. He looked from the tattoo to Zoe’s face, his jaw slack. But it was Knox, the imposing, bald president of the club, who reacted with true urgency. His massive frame, clad in a weathered black leather vest, rose from the booth like a dark cloud.

Before Clint could speak, Knox bypassed the table and crouched protectively next to Zoe. His heavy hand gripped her shoulder, steadying her trembling frame. He glared at the rest of the diner, his voice booming like thunder.

"Nobody moves. She's with me,"

he barked, his fierce gaze locking the room in place. Then, leaning in close, he whispered urgently in her ear,

"Door, now."

Then, leaning in close, he whispered urgently in her ear,"Door, now."
