A Sudden Cry for Help

The bright, fluorescent lights of the supermarket snack aisle did little to warm the icy tension that suddenly gripped the room. Marcus, a tall, heavily tattooed biker with a long brown beard and a rugged denim vest, was simply comparing brands of chips when his world collided with a child’s nightmare. Out of nowhere, a tiny force slammed into his legs. It was Chloe, a small blonde girl wearing a bright yellow hoodie, her pigtails disheveled and her face streaked with tears.

She clung to Marcus’s denim-clad legs as if they were the only solid anchor in a stormy sea. Marcus froze, looking down at the trembling child. Before he could ask what was wrong, heavy footsteps echoed down the aisle. A man in a red baseball cap, his face flushed with rage, marched toward them. It was Gary. His eyes bulged with anger as he pointed an aggressive finger directly at Marcus.

"You hear me? I don't care who you think you are. You don't touch my cart. You don't touch my kid," Gary yelled, his voice booming through the quiet store.

Chloe whimpered, burying her face deeper into Marcus’s jeans. "Please don't let him take me," she sobbed, her voice cracking with genuine terror. Marcus’s protective instincts, honed over years of riding with his tight-knit club, instantly kicked in. He looked from the frightened child to the aggressive man standing before him.

Instead of backing down, Marcus stood tall, his massive frame completely shielding Chloe from Gary’s view. He looked Gary dead in the eye, his expression calm but deadly serious.

"You done yelling?" Marcus responded, his voice low and firm. "'Cause I don't move for bullies."
