A Father Hunts His Terrified Son Until A Shocking Secret Halts The Chase
The Hunt in the Frozen Alley
The bitter winter wind howled through the narrow, slushy alleyways of Chicago, cutting through coats like a razor. Claire sprinted as fast as her winter boots would allow, her red puffer coat a stark splash of color against the drab gray brick of the towering apartment complexes. Her breath came in ragged, icy gasps. As she rounded a sharp corner, her foot caught on a patch of black ice. She slipped, tumbling hard onto the freezing, wet pavement. Nearby, a white delivery van screeched to a halt, its tires spraying dirty slush. The driver leaned out, his face pale with shock as he shouted,
"Hey! No! Watch where you're going!"
But Claire barely heard him. Her eyes were fixed further down the block, where a group of imposing men moved with predatory focus. Leading them was Mason, a gruff, imposing figure clad in a dark grey parka and a tight grey knit cap. His face was a mask of cold fury. Mason gestured sharply, directing his crew to fan out. They were hunting someone, and they were closing in fast. Claire scrambled to her feet, ignoring the stinging pain in her knees. She had to stop them before it was too late.
Further down the alley, pressed tightly against a crumbling brick wall, was seventeen-year-old Liam. Dressed in a bright yellow letterman jacket that made him an easy target, the teenager was trembling violently. His eyes darted frantically, looking for an escape route that didn't exist. He was completely cornered.
"No, no, please,"Liam whispered to himself, his voice cracking with sheer terror as the heavy thud of boots drew closer.
Suddenly, one of Mason’s men spotted the flash of yellow.
"He's over here!"the man pointed, his voice booming through the quiet alley. Mason didn't hesitate, his face hardening further.
"Keep moving,"he commanded his crew, his voice low and dangerous. Liam shrank back, his eyes wide with absolute dread as the shadows of his pursuers stretched across the icy brick wall.
