The Corridor Confrontation

The sterile, white fluorescent lights of St. Jude Hospital hummed with a cold, clinical energy. Clara sat slumped against the hard linoleum floor, her hands desperately shielding her heavily pregnant belly. Tears streamed down her face, staining her beige maternity dress. Just moments ago, she had been waiting peacefully for her routine prenatal checkup, but now, her world was spinning into chaos.

Standing over her was Vanessa, dressed in a sharp dark blue dress, her face contorted with pure rage. Vanessa lunged forward, her heel striking close to Clara.

"You deserve this!"
Vanessa shrieked, her voice echoing off the metallic walls of the corridor.
"No, please! Think of the baby!"
Clara begged, her voice cracking with terror.

Before Vanessa could strike again, Julian, Clara’s husband, rushed down the hallway. His dark grey suit jacket flew open as he threw himself between the two women.

"Stop, what are you doing? Get back!"
Julian roared, his strong arms wrapping around Vanessa to pull her away. A nurse in white scrubs watched in absolute shock, her hands pressed against her mouth before she scrambled to press the emergency security button.

Julian successfully pushed Vanessa back, his chest heaving with adrenaline. Without losing a second, he dropped to his knees, his expensive suit scraping the clinical floor as he pulled his sobbing, trembling wife into his arms.

"I’ve got you, sweetheart. You’re safe,"
he whispered, holding her tight. But Vanessa stood a few feet away, panting, her eyes filled with a venomous hatred that had been brewing for years. She was Julian’s ex-wife, and she had spent the last two years blaming Clara for destroying her marriage. As security guards finally rounded the corner, Clara gasped in sudden pain, clutching her stomach as a terrifying warmth pooled beneath her.
