Robert's heart had been a hollow chamber for seven long years. Ever since the tragic car accident that allegedly claimed his wife Clara's life, he had walked the earth like a ghost. Today, as the golden hour cast long, amber shadows across the historic cobblestone alleyway, he felt the familiar, heavy ache in his chest. Dressed in his dark brown tweed suit, he reached into his pocket for a handkerchief, unaware that a small, worn photograph had slipped out and fluttered to the ground. He kept walking, his mind lost in the past, until a young voice pierced the quiet evening air.

"Mister, why do you have a picture of my mommy?"

Robert froze. The words made no sense. He turned back slowly, his eyes tracking a young girl, about twelve years old, sitting on a stone ledge. She wore a bright red zip-up hoodie and held the precious photograph in her small hands. He walked over, his brow furrowed in deep confusion. "What did you say?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

The girl looked up, her innocent blue eyes meeting his.

"My mommy,"

she repeated, pointing to the face in the picture. Robert felt the air leave his lungs. He stared at the image of Clara—her radiant smile, the exact dimple on her left cheek. He shook his head, a wave of cold dread washing over him.

"That's my wife. She died years ago,"

he said, his voice trembling. But Zoe didn't back down. She held the photo forward, her gaze steady.

"No, my mom is alive."

The world seemed to spin. Robert's eye widened in sheer shock, staring at the child who possessed the exact eyes of the woman he had buried.
