The sun beat down mercilessly on the white marble of the US Capitol building, casting sharp, dramatic shadows across the plaza. Clara adjusted the sleeves of her beige blazer, her hands trembling as she clutched a thick manila envelope tightly against her chest. Beside her, Julian, wearing his simple navy blue polo and khakis, offered a reassuring squeeze of her shoulder. They were only yards away from delivering the evidence that would clear Julian’s name. But they never made it to the entrance.

A Terrifying Confrontation

Out of nowhere, Officer Thomas stepped into their path, his face twisted in a mask of pure hostility. Before Julian could even speak, Thomas drew his heavy black baton, swinging it aggressively toward Clara. Shocked and terrified, Clara shrieked,

"No! Stop!"

Julian instinctively threw his arms around her, shielding her body with his own as the heavy baton narrowly missed them. The camera of a nearby tourist shook as onlookers gasped in horror. Thomas didn't back down. He stepped closer, his voice booming with terrifying authority as he pushed the baton against Julian’s chest.

"Get back now! Move along!"

With a violent shove, Thomas sent Clara sprawling onto the hard pavement. The impact knocked the wind out of her, and her beige slacks scraped against the rough concrete. Tears welled in her eyes as she sobbed in pain and confusion. Julian dropped to his knees, his voice urgent and filled with panic as he tried to pull her to her feet.

"Get up! Clara, please, get up!"

Just then, a second officer stepped out of a nearby police cruiser, gesturing coldly for the gathering crowd to stay back. The dynamic of the scene was suffocating; it was clear that Clara and Julian were completely cornered, trapped in a nightmare where the very people sworn to protect them had become their worst enemies.
