The Boy Who Knew the Code

The grand ballroom of the Vance Estate was a spectacle of blinding luxury. Under a massive crystal chandelier, the city's wealthiest elites gathered, their diamonds reflecting the warm, opulent light. At the center of the room stood a state-of-the-art, high-tech safe—a black steel monolith that had baffled the world's finest locksmiths. Standing before this crowd of billionaires was Leo, a young light-brown-haired boy. He wore a faded, dirty zip-up jacket, and his face was smudged with soot, making him look entirely out of place in the sea of designer tuxedos and silk gowns.

Charles, an older man with a receding hairline and a dark grey suit, held a microphone. He looked down at Leo with a mixture of amusement and pity.

"Open this locker and I'll give you one million dollars,"

Charles announced, his voice echoing through the ballroom. The crowd chuckled, assuming the boy would run away. Instead, Leo looked up, his eyes steady.

"I can open it,"

he replied softly. Arthur, another wealthy older man with thick-framed glasses, sneered. He leaned in close, his microphone capturing his cold, menacing whisper:

"If you fail, you leave."

Leo didn't hesitate. He stepped closer to the safe. His dirty fingers pressed a sequence on the glowing keypad. The crowd held its breath.

"That safe remembers me,"

Leo whispered. Arthur's face twisted in shock. He stepped forward, his voice cracking.

"What did you say?"

With glistening eyes, Leo looked directly at Arthur and said:

"My father locked my name inside."

A heavy click resonated through the quiet ballroom. The thick safe door hissed, broke its vacuum seal, and slowly swung open.
