A Tense Morning at the Diner

The morning light filtered softly through the grease-stained windows of the classic American diner, casting a warm glow over the red vinyl booths. Robert, a distinguished sixty-nine-year-old gentleman dressed in an immaculate blue pinstripe suit, sat serenely in his corner booth. He appreciated the quiet of the early hours, sipping his black coffee and enjoying the nostalgic hum of the jukebox. His polished wooden cane rested gently against the edge of the table, a necessary companion for his aging joints.

The peaceful atmosphere shattered when the heavy glass door swung open, announcing the arrival of Duke. At forty-one, Duke was an imposing figure—a rugged biker clad in a worn black leather vest, sporting a thick mustache and an air of unearned arrogance. Duke looked around the diner, his eyes landing on Robert. To Duke, the older man in the expensive suit looked like an easy target, a symbol of a world he despised.

With a sneer, Duke swaggered over to Robert's booth. Without warning, he grabbed Robert's cane and slammed it violently onto the tiled floor. The impact echoed through the diner, splashing hot coffee over the rim of Robert's cup and staining the clean white tablecloth. Duke stepped back, letting out a booming, mocking laugh that drew the nervous stares of the diner staff.

Robert did not flinch. He slowly looked down at the spilled coffee, then up at the towering biker. With an icy, absolute calm, Robert reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. Duke turned back, his sneer widening as he mocked,

"What, old man? Calling the cops?"

Robert ignored the taunt. He placed the phone to his ear and spoke three quiet, chilling words:

"It's me. Bring them."

Duke laughed again, but his amusement died in his throat. Outside, the wet asphalt of the parking lot began to vibrate. Within seconds, a fleet of four massive, dark SUVs sped into the lot, tires screeching as they surrounded the diner. Robert sat entirely relaxed, while Duke's arrogant smile completely vanished.
