A Corrupt Husband Attacked His Nurse Wife, But Her Soldier Brother Arrived in Time
A Hero in Camouflage
The polished linoleum floors of St. Jude’s Hospital reflected the harsh, clinical glare of the fluorescent lights. For Clara Higgins, a dedicated pediatric nurse, those halls had always been a sanctuary. But tonight, they felt like a trap. Clutching a small black USB drive tightly in her hand, Clara hurried down the deserted east wing, her heart hammering against her ribs. She could hear the heavy, echoing footsteps behind her, closing the distance rapidly.
Suddenly, a hand gripped her shoulder and spun her around. It was Julian Vance, her husband and the hospital's chief financial administrator. His face was twisted in a mask of pure rage. "Give me the drive, Clara!" he hissed, his voice trembling with desperation. "You have no idea what you're ruining!" Clara refused, backing away, but Julian lost all control. With a vicious shove, he sent her crashing to the hard floor. Before she could scramble away, he raised his heavy boot and aggressively stomped on her chest, pinning her down.
"Ahhh! Help!" Clara screamed, the wind knocked completely out of her lungs as agonizing pain flared through her torso.
Julian leaned in, his eyes cold and lifeless. But his moment of triumph was violently cut short. From the far end of the hallway, a thunderous voice echoed. "Hey! Get off her!"
Sergeant Mark Higgins, Clara’s brother who had just returned from a grueling tour of duty, came sprinting down the hallway. Beside him was Rex, his highly trained military German Shepherd. Seeing his sister in mortal danger, Mark didn't hesitate. He closed the distance in seconds, his combat boots squeaking on the polished floor. With a powerful, fluid motion, Mark threw a devastating right hook, his fist connecting squarely with Julian’s jaw. The corrupt administrator stumbled backward, dazed. Mark followed up instantly with a ferocious kick to Julian's chest, sending him flying backward to crash heavily onto the cold floor. Rex stood guard, barking ferociously as the threat was neutralized.
