A Terrifying Warning in the Park

The autumn wind swept through the park, carrying a flurry of golden and orange maple leaves across the paved path. Andrew sat on a cold wooden bench, his charcoal suit offering little protection against the sudden chill. Beside him sat his eight-year-old daughter, Mia. She wore thick black shades and clutched a white guide cane tightly in her small lap. To anyone passing by, they were a picture of quiet grief—a father doing his best to care for his disabled child. But the fragile peace of their afternoon was about to be shattered.

A shadow fell over them. Andrew looked up to see a young boy standing only a few feet away. The boy, Caleb, couldn't have been more than twelve. His face was stained with dirt, and his oversized green hoodie was ragged and torn at the cuffs. Yet, his eyes held an intense, burning urgency that made Andrew freeze.

Caleb leaned in close, his voice barely a whisper against the rustling leaves. Andrew blinked, his mind struggling to process the boy's sudden presence. "What did you just say?" Andrew asked, his voice laced with disbelief.

Caleb didn't blink. "Your daughter isn't blind," he declared flatly.

Andrew's heart skipped a beat. A wave of defensive anger washed over him. "What?" he stammered, tightening his grip on Mia's shoulder. "Who are you to say that?"

Caleb stepped closer, whispering, "I saw her look. She can see, Andrew."

Panic replaced Andrew's anger. He reached out, his hands gripping Caleb's trembling shoulders, demanding, "How do you know this? How do you know my name?"

Caleb looked around nervously before locking eyes with the desperate father. "I sleep near your house. In the bushes by the dining room window." Andrew's face tightened with dread as a horrible realization began to dawn on him. "What did you see?" he whispered. Caleb leaned in, delivering the final blow: "It's your wife. She puts something in her food."
