The Arrogance of Dr. Albert

The lobby of St. Jude’s Premier Hospital gleamed with the sterile perfection of a five-star hotel. High ceilings, curved marble reception desks, and soft, ambient lighting welcomed the city’s elite. Dr. Albert stood behind the reception counter, his white lab coat pristine, a silver pen catching the light in his breast pocket. At just thirty-two, Albert was already considered a rising star in cardiothoracic surgery. Unfortunately, his medical talent was eclipsed only by his monstrous ego.

He watched with growing irritation as an older man walked through the sliding glass doors. The man wore a faded dark blue cardigan, simple trousers, and carried a vintage leather folder that looked decades old. To Albert, this man did not belong in a facility where a single night’s stay cost more than most people earned in a month.

Leaning over the counter, Dr. Albert called out in a voice dripping with condescension.

"Sir, unless you are lost, the public health clinic is just around the corner. Can't you see this is an elite hospital?"

The lobby went dead silent. Several nurses froze. The older man stopped in his tracks. He didn't look angry; instead, a calm, deep intelligence settled in his eyes. He turned slowly, walking directly up to the counter. He looked Dr. Albert dead in the eye, his presence suddenly filling the room with an undeniable authority.

"Good afternoon, Doctor,"
the man said, his voice quiet but carrying to every corner of the room.
"I am Robert Sterling. I am the owner of this hospital, and I will not tolerate this kind of prejudice. You will be suspended and transferred from this hospital to learn not to judge anyone by their appearance."

Dr. Albert’s smug grin instantly evaporated. His face drained of color, his mouth hanging slightly open as the realization hit him like a physical blow. The vintage folder the man carried didn't contain medical records—it contained the deed and board documents for the entire Sterling Medical Group.
