Arthur held his granddaughter Lily’s hand tightly as they walked through the gleaming double doors of Sterling & Co., a high-end jewelry boutique nestled in the heart of the city's luxury district. The store was a masterpiece of polished marble, sparkling glass cases, and warm, golden lighting that made every diamond shimmer like a fallen star. Lily, just nine years old and wearing a simple beige sweater, gasped in awe. She dragged her grandfather toward a central display case, her eyes locking onto a breathtaking pear-cut diamond necklace resting on a velvet cushion.

"Grandpa, if I ever become rich, I'll come back for this one,"
Lily whispered, her finger gently tapping the glass.

Before Arthur could smile and answer, a cold, sharp voice cut through the warm atmosphere.

"Don't stand there dreaming over things you'll never touch,"
snapped Sarah, a sales clerk in a tailored black suit jacket. She leaned over the glass counter, her eyes scanning Arthur’s worn olive green jacket and scuffed shoes with deep disdain.

Arthur’s heart sank, but he kept his voice gentle.

"Please, she's only a child. She isn't doing any harm."

"This isn't a playground for tourists,"
Sarah retorted, crossing her arms.

Hearing the commotion, Richard, the dapper store manager dressed in a sharp medium grey suit, strolled over. Instead of defusing the situation, he sneered at the elderly man.

"Then teach her her place before bringing her in here,"
Richard declared coldly. He looked Arthur up and down, clearly disgusted by their modest appearance.
"This boutique is for elite clientele. People who actually belong here."

Arthur remained remarkably calm, his eyes steady.

"And who decides who belongs here, young man?"

Richard chuckled arrogantly. He gestured grandly toward a massive, gold-framed oil portrait hanging prominently on the mahogany wall behind the main counter.

"The rules of this establishment do. Do you even know who founded this store?"
