The grand ballroom of the swanky hotel was alive with the soft chatter of high society, the clinking of crystal glasses, and the gentle hum of a live string quartet. But the harmonious atmosphere shattered in an instant when Elizabeth, a wealthy socialite draped in a luxurious velvet maroon gown, let out a sharp, theatrical gasp. Her diamond necklace was missing from her collarbone. Her eyes immediately locked onto Sophie, a young waitress in a neat staff uniform who had been quietly clearing champagne glasses nearby.

Before anyone could react, Elizabeth lunged forward and grabbed the young woman's arm with an iron grip, dragging her into the center of the room.

"Tell them where you hid my necklace!"

Elizabeth demanded, her voice echoing off the high gilded ceiling. The crowd fell into a stunned silence, turning their attention to the unfolding drama. Elizabeth pointed a sharp, manicured finger directly at the trembling girl's chest, sneering,

"Girls like you always steal what you can't have. You thought you could slide it into your apron and walk away, didn't you?"

Sophie shook violently, tears streaming down her pale cheeks as the eyes of the city's elite stared at her in judgment. She did not run or fight back. Instead, she reached into her apron pocket with trembling fingers and pulled out a delicate, worn heart-shaped silver necklace.

"I didn't steal anything!" she sobbed, holding it up for everyone to see. "This is mine. It has been mine my whole life. Please, check the engraving."

Elizabeth laughed mockingly, but her husband, George, an older man with a distinguished grey beard dressed in a dark tuxedo, stepped forward. He took the locket from Sophie's shaking hands. He turned it over, his eyes widening.

"That engraving... only my wife had one like that,"

he murmured, his voice barely a whisper. He slowly looked up, staring intently into Sophie's tear-filled blue eyes, studying her features. His breath hitched.

"My God, her face."
