The polished corridors of St. Jude’s Luxury Maternity Pavilion were usually a sanctuary of peace and celebration. Albert, a successful corporate attorney dressed in a tailored dark grey business suit, stood outside the glass-fronted suite where his wife had just given birth. She clutched a worn paper grocery bag to her chest, her eyes searching the doors. When she caught sight of Albert, her tired face flickered with a brief moment of hope.
