A Barefoot Stranger Crashed My Gala to Reveal My Fiancé's Darkest Secret
The Uninvited Guest
The annual winter gala was in full swing inside the gilded American ballroom, a dazzling display of wealth, towering crystal chandeliers, and soft orchestral music. Clara sat quietly in her silver-framed wheelchair, her navy blue velvet gown draped elegantly over her useless legs. Beside her stood Arthur, her handsome fiancé, looking immaculate in his mint green tuxedo. He held the handles of her wheelchair with a possessive grip, smiling warmly at the passing guests. To everyone else, Arthur was the ultimate devoted protector who had stayed by Clara’s side ever since the tragic car accident that paralyzed her three years ago.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors swung open, letting in a gust of freezing winter air. The music faltered, and a hush fell over the crowd. Walking down the grand marble steps was a young man who looked entirely out of place. He was barefoot, his clothes tattered and worn, with short blonde hair and dirt smudged across his cheeks. It was Leo, Clara’s former physical therapist who had been abruptly fired by Arthur years ago under mysterious circumstances.
Leo ignored the gasps of the wealthy patrons and walked straight toward Clara. Arthur immediately stepped forward, his face flushing with anger. "Security! Get this vagrant out of here!" Arthur demanded, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.
But Leo didn't stop. He looked directly at Clara, his blue eyes burning with determination.
"Let me dance with her,"Leo said, his voice steady and calm.
Arthur sneered, adjusting his lapels.
"Do you even know who she is?"
"I know she wants to dance,"Leo responded, causing a collective gasp to ripple through the crowd. Arthur’s grip on the wheelchair tightened.
"Why should I let you near her?"
"Because I can make her stand,"Leo said softly. Arthur froze, his face turning pale.
"What did you say?"Leo knelt before Clara, extending his hand.
"Dance with me,"he whispered. Clara looked at his hand, her heart racing as she whispered back,
"Stand up."
