A Proposal on the Cold Concrete

The autumn wind swept through the concrete canyons of the metropolitan financial district, carrying with it the chill of impending winter. Amidst the sea of towering corporate skyscrapers, a stark contrast unfolded on the pavement. Evelyn, elegant in her tailored beige coat and designer sunglasses, knelt on the dirty ground. She didn't care about the stains on her expensive fabric. She only cared about the disheveled man sitting before her.

Matthew looked like a ghost of his former self. His face was sunburnt, his hair matted, and his body wrapped in a tattered wool coat. He stared at Evelyn with hollow, unseeing eyes. Behind them, a silent crowd of onlookers in sharp black suits watched the scene unfold like vultures waiting for a feast.

"Marry me. Please," Evelyn pleaded, her voice trembling with raw emotion.

Matthew blinked, his scarred face twitching with confusion. "Why me?" he whispered, his voice raspy from years of living on the streets.

Evelyn pulled down her sunglasses, tears streaming down her pale cheeks.

"Because it's you," she whispered. "Please."

She opened a blue velvet ring box, revealing a heavy gold ring emblazoned with a unique family crest. Matthew’s eyes locked onto the gold emblem. A sudden spark of electricity seemed to fire in his brain. His eyes widened in sheer shock.

"This name..." he whispered, his hand shaking as he reached toward the box.

Before he could touch it, the screech of tires shattered the silence. A sleek black SUV slammed to a halt at the curb. Heavily armed guards in corporate security uniforms poured out of the vehicle. "Get him, stop!" a harsh voice shouted. As they grabbed Matthew, a guard yelled, "Don't let him remember!"
