A Lost Boy Handed Me a Toy Motorcycle and Revealed a Secret
The Boy in the Meadow
The heavy hum of half a dozen motorcycle engines finally died down, leaving only the rustle of the wind through the tall, damp grass of the Oregon meadow. Silas pulled off his helmet, running a hand through his long, graying hair. He was a rugged man, his face lined with the miles he had traveled and the regrets he had accumulated over a lifetime on the road. The Iron Brotherhood had paused near a dirt road to rest, their dark leather vests dusty from the journey.
Suddenly, the peace of the overcast afternoon was shattered by a rustling in the brush. Out tumbled a small boy, no older than seven, panting and desperate. He wore a distressed denim vest that looked far too large for his fragile frame, and his messy blonde hair was tangled with twigs. He was running so fast that his small feet tripped over the thick roots, sending him sprawling onto the grass.
Silas instinctively stepped forward. The boy didn't cry out in pain; instead, he scrambled to his knees, clutching a beautifully carved wooden toy motorcycle to his chest like a shield. He looked up at Silas with wide, tear-filled blue eyes.
"Please sir, buy it," the boy pleaded, his voice cracking with desperation.
Silas knelt in the damp grass, his tough exterior softening. He gently reached out and took the toy, inspecting the craftsmanship. It was incredibly detailed, carved from solid oak. The handiwork was hauntingly familiar. Silas felt a cold chill run down his spine.
"Who made this?" Silas asked, his voice low and intense.
The boy wiped his eyes with a dirty sleeve, his shoulders shaking.
"My dad," he sobbed.
Silas stared at the bottom of the toy, where the initials C.V. were faintly etched. His breath caught. He looked back at the boy's face, searching the child's features.
"What's his name?" Silas asked, his heart hammering against his ribs.
The boy looked up, his lips trembling violently as a fresh wave of tears spilled over.
"He said if he died, I should find the biker who is my father," the boy cried.
