The grand white marble atrium of the Vance estate had always been a symbol of family pride, but today, it felt like a cold, gilded prison. Rose knelt on the damp, hard floor, her fingers tightly gripping a rough rag. A dark stain of expensive red wine spread across the pristine marble, and she was desperately trying to scrub it away before the guests arrived for the evening gala.

Standing over her was Penelope, her step-sister, dressed in an elegant dark green gown. Penelope held a half-empty wine glass, a look of supreme satisfaction on her face. To Penelope, Rose was nothing more than an inconvenient relic of her late stepfather’s past—a servant in her own family home.

"She's just doing what she's good at, cleaning," Penelope remarked smugly to her friends, her voice echoing off the high, stately columns.

Rose kept her head down, swallowing her tears. But the heavy oak doors of the atrium suddenly swung open, cutting through Penelope's cruel laughter. A tall, imposing figure stepped inside. It was Peter, Rose’s older brother, wearing a sharp brown tweed suit and carrying his dark attaché case. He had been away in London for years running the family's European operations, and his return was completely unannounced.

Peter froze as his eyes fell upon his sister kneeling on the wet floor. The shock on his face instantly hardened into a mask of pure fury. He looked from Rose to Penelope, who was still smiling, completely oblivious to the storm she had just unleashed.

Without saying a word to Penelope, Peter pulled his phone from his pocket, pressed it to his ear, and spoke with terrifying authority.

"Cancel everything. Now!" Peter demanded.

Penelope gasped, her wine glass trembling. "What?" she stammered, her smug expression vanishing in an instant.

Peter glared at her with eyes of cold steel.

"This house is no longer yours," he said into the receiver, before lowering the phone to stare directly at his step-sister.
