The grand ballroom of the Whispering Pines estate was a spectacle of gold leaf and crystal. Hundreds of high-society guests chatted amiably, their laughter mingling with the soft strains of a live orchestra. Clara sat in her silver-framed wheelchair, her navy blue velvet gown draping elegantly over her useless legs. Beside her stood Arthur, looking pristine in a mint green tuxedo, his hand resting possessively on her shoulder. Clara tried to smile, but her eyes remained dull. She felt like a beautiful ornament, kept on display but utterly powerless.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors creaked open. The music faltered as a young man stepped onto the polished marble floor. He was barefoot, his blonde hair tousled, and his clothes tattered and worn as if he had traveled miles on foot. Yet, he walked with an undeniable grace and purpose, heading straight toward Clara.

The crowd parted in hushed shock. Arthur stepped forward, his face hardening. "Security!" he called out, but the stranger ignored him, stopping just inches from Clara's chair.

blockquote>"Let me dance with her," the young man said, his voice quiet but carrying across the silent hall.

Arthur sneered, adjusting his lapels.

blockquote>"Do you even know who she is?"

The young man looked directly into Clara's brown eyes.

blockquote>"I know she wants to dance."

A collective gasp rippled through the onlookers. Arthur’s face flushed with anger.

blockquote>"Why should I let you near her?"

The stranger didn't flinch.

blockquote>"Because I can make her stand."

Arthur froze, his confidence suddenly evaporating.

blockquote>"What did you say?"

Kneeling before Clara, the young man extended a calloused, warm hand.

blockquote>"Dance with me,"

he whispered. Clara stared at his hand, her heart hammering against her ribs. Deep inside her soul, a voice screamed, Stand up.
