The heavy oak doors of the Sterling mansion creaked open, letting in a draft of freezing winter air. David stepped into the grand foyer, pulling his charcoal coat tightly around himself. In his right hand, he clutched a large, fuzzy teddy bear. His business trip had been cut short by an unexpected storm, and all he wanted was to surprise his seven-year-old daughter, Lily. Following the noise, David rounded the arched doorway and stopped dead in his tracks. There, kneeling on the cold floor with a heavy, dirty mop, was Lily. Her curly blonde hair was messy, and her dusty denim overalls were stained. Tears streamed down her flushed cheeks as she stared at the bucket.

"Why are you home early?"
