The Shocking Accusation

The afternoon sun filtered through the lush green canopy of the restaurant garden, casting warm dappled light across the pristine white tablecloth. Edward adjusted his brown tweed jacket, feeling a rare sense of peace. Sitting across from him was his beautiful wife, Grace, radiant in a yellow sundress, her blonde bob perfectly styled. Beside them stood Emily, Grace’s eight-year-old daughter, wearing her usual dark sunglasses and leaning heavily on her crutches. Emily’s condition was a constant shadow over their lives, but today was meant to be a celebration.

Suddenly, the tranquil atmosphere of the patio shattered. A young boy, no older than eight, wearing a bright red sweater, marched directly toward their table. His face was flushed with anger, his eyes fixed on Grace. Before Edward could ask what was happening, the boy, Henry, pointed an accusing finger at Emily.

"Your daughter can see!" Henry yelled, his voice echoing across the silent garden.

Edward blinked in confusion, looking at Grace, who had frozen mid-laugh. But Henry wasn't finished. He swung his finger around, pointing directly at Grace’s chest.

"She poisoned her food!" Henry shouted again, louder this time.

The surrounding diners gasped. Edward felt a chill run down his spine. Henry reached into a small burlap sack he carried, pulling out a small amber medicine bottle and slamming it onto the table. Behind him, Emily slowly reached up, slipping off her dark sunglasses. For the first time, her eyes were clear, focused, and filled with tears as she looked at Edward.

"Mommy gives it to me," Emily whispered.

Edward’s breath hitched. His eyes fell to the white tablecloth. Right next to the bottle Henry had produced was an identical amber vial that had slipped out of Grace’s open purse. Edward slowly reached out, his hand trembling as his fingers closed around the cold glass, while Grace stood beside him, completely paralyzed with fear.
