The King Forced Me to Marry His Daughter Who Wore a Locked Wooden Barrel on Her Head
The Silent Bride
The grand cathedral of St. Jude was bathed in a brilliant, golden light that filtered through the towering stained-glass windows. Yet, despite the warmth of the sun, a cold dread hung heavily in the air. Prince Alexander, dressed in his ornate gold and crimson vestments, took a deep, trembling breath as he prepared to walk down the long stone aisle. His heart hammered violently against his ribs. The whispers of the court had circulated for months about Princess Catherine, the daughter of the formidable King Philip. Some said she was hideously deformed, while others whispered of a dark curse that had silenced her forever. None of the rumors, however, prepared Alexander for the reality waiting at the altar.
Standing beside the elderly sovereign, who wore a magnificent fur-trimmed violet robe, was the figure of the princess. Her white silk bridal gown was pristine, but her head was entirely encased in a heavy, locked wooden barrel. Iron bands wrapped around the wood, secured tightly with a massive brass padlock. There was no veil, only the stark, imposing structure of the barrel hiding her face from the world.
King Philip stepped forward, his face etched with a grim, unyielding determination. He took Catherine’s delicate hand and placed it firmly in Alexander’s trembling palm.
"My daughter is now your wife," King Philip declared, his booming voice echoing off the vaulted stone ceilings.
The priest quickly recited the vows, his voice shaking under the King's watchful gaze. When the ceremony concluded, King Philip leaned closer to Alexander, his breath cold. "Open the latch," he ordered quietly. "Behold your bride." With shaking fingers, Alexander reached out and unlocked the brass padlock. He slowly pulled open the small metal latch door on the front of the barrel. Peering into the darkness, his breath caught in his throat. He stumbled backward, gasping in pure horror.
"Oh my God," Alexander whispered, staring at the desperate face trapped inside.
