The Miracle on the Driveway

For three painful years, eighteen-year-old Clara had lived in the shadow of a tragic car accident. The crash had not only claimed her mother’s life but had also left Clara’s legs completely paralyzed. Bound to a wheelchair and isolated within the sprawling, gated walls of her father’s countryside estate, Clara felt like a ghost in her own life. Her father, Richard, a wealthy and powerful businessman, ruled the household with an iron fist, shielding Clara from the outside world under the guise of protection.

Toby didn't flinch. He gently massaged Clara's feet. Suddenly, a jolt of warmth shot through Clara’s spine. For the first time in years, she felt the temperature of the water. She felt the pressure of Toby's fingers.

Richard froze, his anger instantly dissolving into sheer, pale horror. But before he could speak, Toby stood up, reaching into his pocket to reveal a worn silver medallion bearing a familiar family crest.

"My mother said you'd remember this," Toby declared.
