The King Sentenced Me to the Beasts, but the Lion Remembered My Sacrifice
The Arena of Judgment
The midday sun beat down mercilessly upon the grand stone colosseum, casting harsh shadows across the packed sand of the arena. Thousands of spectators leaned over the stone balustrades, their voices rising in a deafening clamor for blood. In the center of this vast amphitheater stood Leo, a twenty-two-year-old warrior with wavy blonde hair, clad only in a simple, light grey tunic. He stood alone, weaponless and facing the royal balcony.
High above, King Robert sat upon his gilded throne, a polished crown catching the bright sunlight. His face wore a smug, self-satisfied smile. Beside him, High Cleric Thomas, draped in traditional white robes, watched with cold, calculating eyes. They had orchestrated this trial by combat to rid themselves of a truth-teller, but fate had other plans.
Suddenly, the heavy iron gates ground open, and a massive black lion with glowing yellow eyes emerged. The beast let out a thunderous roar and charged fiercely across the sand, its powerful muscles rippling. Leo braced himself, falling backward as the shadow-beast loomed over him. But instead of tearing him apart, the lion stopped. It lowered its massive head, sniffing a deep, stitched scar running along Leo’s forearm, and gently licked the wound.
A collective gasp rippled through the spectators. High Cleric Thomas stared in utter disbelief, his hands gripping the stone railing. In the stands, a young man named Toby pointed dramatically, his voice cutting through the silence.
"That scar belongs to the warrior who defeated the Shadow Dragon!" Toby shouted. "He is no traitor!"
King Robert’s smug smile instantly withered into a mask of pure shock as the crowd erupted into chaotic murmurs.
