The King Sentenced Me to Death—But the Beast Remembered My Secret
The Judgment of the Arena
The blinding sun of the grand colosseum beat down mercilessly upon the hot sand. Leo stood alone in the center of the massive stone arena, his messy dark brown hair whipped by a dry wind. He wore only a simple, dusty off-white tunic, a stark contrast to the grand spectators filling the towering stone tiers. High above, in the shaded royal balcony, sat King Robert. At fifty-three, the king’s grey beard and shining golden crown gave him an air of absolute authority, though his eyes held only cold calculation. Beside him sat High Cleric Thomas, draped in elegant, flowing white robes that caught the sunlight.
A heavy iron gate groaned open across the arena. From the darkness emerged a creature of nightmares—a massive black lion with glowing yellow eyes. The beast roared, a sound that shook the very foundations of the colosseum, and charged fiercely across the sand toward Leo. Panic surged through the crowd as the young man fell backward, the shadow of the colossal predator looming over him. Leo braced for the end, closing his eyes as the beast's hot breath washed over his face.
But the fatal blow never came. Instead, the giant lion lowered its massive head, its glowing eyes softening. It sniffed Leo’s outstretched arm, focusing on a deep, jagged stitched scar that ran along his forearm. Gently, almost reverently, the great beast licked the scar, letting out a soft, submissive whimper.
A stunned silence fell over the thousands of spectators. High Cleric Thomas gripped the stone railing, staring in utter disbelief. Suddenly, a young spectator named Toby pointed dramatically from the front rows.
"That scar belongs to the warrior who defeated the Shadow Dragon!" Toby shouted, his voice echoing in the silence.
King Robert’s smug smile instantly vanished, replaced by a mask of sheer shock.
