An Unexpected Guest

The sun shone brightly over the grand portico of the upscale colonial estate, casting a warm glow over the elegant crowd. It was supposed to be the perfect wedding. Charles, standing in his stylish grey tuxedo, looked out at the guests chatting happily. Next to him was Eleanor, radiant in her vintage satin wedding dress. Everything was pristine, expensive, and orchestrated to perfection. But then, a shadow fell over the entrance.

At the edge of the stone steps stood a gaunt, dirty older woman. Her white hair was unkempt, and she wore a tattered trench coat that looked completely out of place among the designer gowns and tailored suits. Charles felt a sudden wave of embarrassment and anger. He stepped away from Eleanor and confronted the intruder.

"You can't be here," Charles said, his voice low but firm, hoping to dismiss her before anyone noticed.

The woman didn't flinch. Instead, she looked up at him with tear-filled, desperate eyes. Her hands trembled as she clutched the collar of her worn coat.

"That's okay. Just check your phone," she whispered.

Confused, Charles reached into his pocket as his phone buzzed. He opened the screen to find an image sent from an unknown number. It was an old photograph of a young, smiling woman holding a newborn baby in a hospital bed—and standing next to her was Charles's father, Arthur. But the woman in the bed wasn't the mother Charles had been raised to believe was dead. As he stared, his eyes fell upon a distinct, star-shaped birthmark on the woman's collarbone in the photo. He looked up, his gaze locking onto the dirty woman's collarbone, where the exact same birthmark was visible.

"This photo..." Charles whispered in absolute disbelief.

Tears streamed down the older woman's gaunt face as she took a trembling step forward.

"I told you I'd find you," Dorothy cried softly.

Eleanor rushed over, clutching her bridal bouquet tightly, her eyes wide with panic and confusion.

"Who is she?" Eleanor demanded, her voice tight with tension.

Eleanor demanded, her voice tight with tension.
