An Uninvited Guest

The sun shone brilliantly over the manicured lawns of the prestigious Oakridge Country Club, casting a perfect golden glow on what was supposed to be the happiest day of Robert’s life. Dressed in a tailored charcoal suit with his blond hair slicked back, he stood on the grand stone entrance stairs, holding the hand of his beautiful bride, Katherine. Her beaded sweetheart wedding gown shimmered with every step, and the air was filled with the soft chatter of high-society guests.

But the idyllic scene shattered when a disheveled figure began ascending the stairs. She was a gaunt, older woman wearing a worn, dusty brown coat that stood in stark contrast to the elegance surrounding her. Her face was lined with exhaustion, and her hands trembled as she approached. Robert stepped forward, trying to shield Katherine from the bizarre intrusion.

"You can't be here," Robert said, his voice low but firm, hoping to dismiss her before a scene broke out.

The woman stopped and looked up at him with desperate, tear-filled blue eyes. She didn't look angry; she looked utterly heartbroken.

"That's okay," she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. "Just check your phone."

Confused and annoyed, Robert pulled his phone from his pocket. A message from an unknown number had just arrived. He tapped it open, and Katherine leaned in to look. The image on the screen made Robert's heart stop. It was an old hospital photo of a young, glowing woman holding a newborn baby who had a distinct heart-shaped birthmark on his shoulder—a mark Robert knew intimately. But standing next to her, smiling warmly, was Robert's own father, Richard.

"This photo..." Robert whispered, his face draining of all color.

The older woman let out a sob, tears cutting paths through the dust on her cheeks.

"I told you I'd find you," she cried softly.

Katherine clutched her bridal bouquet tightly to her chest, her eyes darting between the woman and her fiancé in absolute panic.

"Who is she, Robert?" Katherine demanded, her voice trembling. "Who is this woman?"

Katherine demanded, her voice trembling. "Who is this woman?"
