The brick courtyard of the historic mansion was bathed in the warm, golden glow of the afternoon sun. It was the perfect setting for a wedding. Guests in elegant attire chatted amiably, sipping expensive champagne while classical music drifted through the air. William stood beside his beautiful bride, Sophia. Dressed in a sharp, midnight blue tuxedo that highlighted his sandy blonde hair, he looked like the happiest man alive. Sophia, radiant in her long-sleeved lace gown, smiled up at him. Everything was flawless, a picture-perfect culmination of their years together.

Then, the atmosphere shifted. Near the entrance of the courtyard, a figure appeared that seemed to clash violently with the surrounding opulence. It was an older woman, gaunt and disheveled. Her face was weathered by years of hardship, and she wore a stained, oversized jacket that hung loosely off her frail frame. Whispers began to ripple through the crowd. Sensing the disturbance, William turned and felt his heart tighten. He couldn't let his wedding day be ruined by a scene.

Apologizing to Sophia, William walked briskly toward the woman, his expression hardening. He stopped a few feet away, keeping his voice low but firm.

An Uninvited Guest

"You can't be here," William whispered, hoping to dismiss her quietly before security noticed.

But the woman didn't flinch. She looked up at him, her eyes shining with a mixture of desperate hope and overwhelming sorrow. Her lips trembled as she spoke, her voice barely audible over the chatter of the crowd.

"That's okay. Just check your phone," she whispered.

Confused and annoyed, William pulled his phone from his pocket. Sophia had followed him, her face filled with concern. As the screen lit up, William tapped on a message from an unknown number. The image that appeared on the screen made his breath catch in his throat. It was an old hospital photo of a young woman holding a newborn baby. Standing beside her was William's adoptive father, Richard, holding a folder of documents. The baby had a distinct, crescent-shaped birthmark on his left wrist—the exact same birthmark William had carried his entire life.

"This photo..." William whispered in disbelief, his world spinning.

The older woman let out a ragged sob, tears streaming down her dirty cheeks.

"I told you I'd find you," she cried softly.

Sophia clutched her floral bouquet tightly to her chest, her eyes darting between William and the crying stranger. Panic laced her voice as she demanded, "Who is she?"
